The MNG gratefully acknowledges its home on the traditional ancestral territories of the people of the Treaty 7 Region of Southern Alberta, comprised of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani and Siksika), the Métis Nation of Alberta Region III, the Stoney Nakoda First Nation (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney) and the Tsuut’ina First Nation as well as the many other First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for and crossed this land for generations, without whom we would have neither home, nor life.
The MNG also understands it is not enough to acknowledge the keepers of this land, but that we must actively resist and seek to dismantle colonialism in all of its forms, through our daily actions and our broader practice. We must also continually reflect on what it means to decolonize our present and future, and seek to define the active role of the art institution in the actualization of this process.
