01 - Exhibition Statement

Ever since my departure to Canada to pursue my education, I have realized just how lonely and harsh life could be. I left behind everything I knew of before to rebuild again from scratch. I yearn for a place to belong, and to this day, this gap is still a missing puzzle. Yet those who only brushed past my life helped me despite our mismatched pieces. They are the Vietnamese proverb of leaves with strong foundations willing to cover for the tattered ones. Their kind act warmed me like home. But even the good leaves have flaws and can be vulnerable. Therefore, I also want to have their back, no matter how small. Such beautiful relationship of mutual support has encouraged me to keep working toward my goal. This is also my display of appreciation to those who aided me in my journey to adulthood and independence.

02 - Artist Statement

Hanh Nguyen is an interdisciplinary artist from Vietnam based in Mohkinstsis/Calgary who works and explores the existential meaning of being. By combining logic and fantasy, practicality and dreaminess, she hopes to understand her relationship to the world and the connection between culture and time, particularly her Vietnamese roots.
